“Herbs? What Even Is in Those?” Let’s Talk About It!

“Herbs? What even is in those?”
Honestly, that question makes me smile every time.
Here’s the thing: Traditional Chinese herbal formulas are made from flowers, roots, fruits, seeds, and bark — actual plants. Nature. Not mystery powder from some secret lab. Yet we’ve been so conditioned to be skeptical of anything we don’t understand.
At the same time, we’ll grab a bag of Doritos, drink neon-blue Gatorade, or snack on “organic” Cheetos (still waiting to see a Cheeto tree in the wild). No questions asked.
What I really want people to understand is that Traditional Chinese herbal medicine isn’t so different from vitamins and minerals. These are natural substances that help your body heal, function optimally, and return to balance.
Think about it:
• Without vitamin C, your immune system can crash.
• Without calcium, your bones become brittle.
• Without B vitamins, your energy dips.
Do you know exactly how those vitamins work in your body? Probably not. But you trust they help — because they do. Herbal medicine is the same.
Chinese herbs work within the body’s meridian system. Depending on their properties, they can warm, cool, move, or dry — whatever your body needs to restore balance. At our clinic, we don’t use mystery formulas or questionable imports. Our herbal formulas are safe, effective, and natural.
And yes — you actually have to take them for them to work. I can’t tell you how many times a patient says, “Okay, I got the herbs,” and then they just sit in the cabinet. That’s not how healing works. You have to give your body the support it needs.
Personally, I’ve been using Traditional Chinese herbal formulas for over 16 years — for PMS, digestion, cholesterol, sore throats, and coughs. I take them because they work. I would never recommend something I wouldn’t use myself.
At EastWest Acupuncture, we’re here to take care of you. To support your healing. And to help you feel better in a way that’s natural, safe, and time-tested.
As always, we got you! Give us a call or book online to have one of our providers help you incorporate Traditional Chinese Medicine into your life!
