When you see one of our providers here at EastWest Acupuncture, we will often check in with you about the different medications and supplements you are already taking. This is especially true if we are incorporating herbal therapy into your treatment plan.
We do this for a few reasons:
Sometimes the symptoms you are experiencing are actually a side effect of a medication or supplement (yes, even "natural" products can have side effects). If that's the case, we want to work with you and your other providers to address that issue.
We always want to check the safety of incorporating herbal formulas into your care plan if you are already taking medication. Herbs are very safe and effective when properly prescribed by a provider who has extensive training and understands when and how to prescribe them. Even natural, organic products can be dangerous if used improperly.
We want to check in on WHERE you are getting your products from. Not all "natural" or "organic" products are what they claim to be. It is so important to make sure that you are getting them from a trusted source that has proper quality control methods in place.
Today, with free two-day shipping, it is so convenient to order a product online and have it arrive at your door same-day or a couple of days later. The problem with this is that you don't always know what you're getting. The internet is a wild place filled with unqualified 3rd-party sellers and scammers. There have been many cases where products that were ordered online were falsely advertised, and the product that was received was a capsule filled with sugar or other filler, made to look like an herbal supplement.
We want to make sure that our patients are taking high quality, effective herbal formulas and supplements. We carry many different products at our clinic from brands we have researched and trust.
